NEWS ITEM: Post Koh Samui Regatta 2008: There is more good news for the Junior sailors. Sunsail is donating a Benetteau 35 racing yacht for the use of the Junior sailors. The plan is, John Stall will be skipper with two Royal Thai Navy crew and each day, take four different Junior sailors to crew. So with five days racing some twenty kids will have the chance to experience big boat racing and perhaps learn some colourful nautical terms.

February 2008 Regatta Report
The February regatta was staged from the Oriental Resort (and their Cooler Bar) at Ban Rak and the five Juniors who showed up were spread amongst the fleet. The Lamai Chamber of Commerce set the start line at 1230, using Gerry's Macgregor 26 as the committee boat and then screwed up the starting sequence by lowering the one minute flag, a minute late! While this was tolerated by the older crews, the juniors made it known that they expected more from the elders and let the race officer know by their loud comments, that went unanswered by a subdued committee who were already into their third can of beer. However it did make for an interesting start with Capt. Didier and his Hobie 21 crossing the line on port followed by Francesco on his Windrider 17, while Squall's Nacra crossing on Starboard forced Moonshadow (Mick Grover) to tack and Squall's junior crew of Amanda and Mai asking " Why did they shout "Bastard !" Mr. John ?". Because the wind was a fitful 9 knots with holes, the course was a clockwise rounding of the two offshore rocks Hin Mu Nok, Ko Som and the committee boat. Moonshadow, with her outstanding windward ability was first around, followed by the H. 21, then the Nacra and then a long way back to Crazy Horse (RB 8000) and the Windrider. Then, after rounding Koh Som, poor Moonshadow fell into a hole and had to watch the Hobie 21 sail right through her and into a big lead while the Nacra also made large gains on the leader. Capt. Didier scored line honours, followed by Moonshadow, Nacra 4.5, Crazy Horse and the Windrider 17. Corrected results., 1st Moonshadow, 2nd Nacra 4.5, 3rd Hobie 21. Sunday dawned raining and no wind, so at 1300 it was decided to cancel the day's racing. Race Results February 22 / 23 Regatta
